What happens when an accountant decides to grab life by the horns and try something new? Apparently a pirate named Dave, a lot of pastel fleece, and blackmail - just to start with....

Visualize and succeed, Oprah said. I was sure as hell trying, even if my campaign to score a job as the local weather girl had ended in a restraining order. Okay, TV was not my strength. But a lack of talent has never stopped me before. Which is why I've embarked on a writing career. I mean, how hard can it be to come up with a sexy romance?

Leave it to me to wind up in a group of porno-writing grannies who discuss sex toys and apple cobbler in the same breath. Also, leave it to me to leak an outlandish plot idea to a best-selling author with the morals of a rabid squirrel. And only I could get arrested for a jewelry heist I didn't commit - by a hunky cop whose handcuffs just might tempt me to sign up for a life of crime. Maybe I've found my calling after all.

How hard can it be … to become a romance novel writer? Rena, our protagonist, feels it is not hard at all. She is a CPA who happens to write numbers; so she kinda writes now. She also felt, showing up to the news station for a month straight would get her the job to be a meteorologist. Instead, it resulted in her receiving a restraining order against her, 6 hours in jail, and being the story on the 6:00 news.

Jessica Almasy’s narration was delightfully, youthful, and energetic. Within the first 3 minutes she transports you to the era of Lucy Ball. Rena turns all situations amusing by her bungling and incompetence.

In Rena’s her quest to become a writer goes to writer’s workshop, where she finds a group of eclectic geriatric women, who write romance novels. Rena’s goal is to meet the New York times bestselling romance novelist, Evangeline O’Hare.

From that point, her life is a roller coaster of events; finding her true love, being arrested, losing her true love, being blackmail and family dinners with an aunt who think aliens are living in her toaster. It is Rena’s sense of justice and passion that motivates her to write Pirate Dave and His Randy Adventures.

This is a hilarious book that I will read again and again. The next books in the series are about different characters. It is Rena and her quirky entourage’s adventures that I enjoy.

Totally hysterical!!!

This has to be one of the funniest romantic comedies ever. From aliens to big foot to the taboo skeletons in our closets. The family scenes should have come with a panty protector warning label!

Laughed myself silly..

I was let down by this book to say the least. It has some funny parts but the heroine is annoying as hell. I’m hanging on for the last 4 hours to find out how it gets wrapped up with all the side characters. But dang, this is driving me nuts but I must finish. OCD I guess since I’ve gotten this far, no turning back. Glad it didn’t cost me since it’s in the romance package.............

Ugh 😑 but I have to finish.....

This was a crazy, hilarious trip into someone’s (fantastic) demented mind. I listened to this book in one day; mostly for educational purposes. I now know every curse word ever invented and about 105 new words when referring to the male member. I’ve definitely become a fast fan of Robyn Peterman. Two more in the series and I can’t wait.

Oh my gosh, read this book!
