The overall advice is good enough, but written in the most boring straightforward way that will be very hard for even the dull list of Dillard’s to listen to. What a good writer does is show not tell this person mentions the show. Don’t tell principal, but they don’t actually follow it. The entire book is just telling you random advice on how to write a book and how to make good characters without demonstrating it. There’s precious little examples or elaborating on any point that is made for example. They’ll tell you something useful like make sure your characters are rich with a backstory that gives them depth. OK so if you’ve never written anything before, this could be great news for you, but if you’ve ever read a book watch TV show or try to write anything this is already something that you know what you might not know, though is how to actually put that into action this would be where the book should elaborate on how somebody does that and then gives you an example from an actual movie or a well written story with an example of how that is done and then they elaborate on that point and tell you how it was done this is how most how to books that are successful. Do things this book doesn’t do that instead it just tells you a point and then it moves onto the next point. It reads kind of like a never-ending bullet list of things that you should learn to do and so after you listen to this book, you’ll have to go buy a different book that actually teaches you how to do these things.
You would probably be better off watching a 10 minute YouTube video on how to write a short horror story then listening to this audiobook and it would be more engaging
