They came after the Diseray. Some were terrors ripped from our collective imaginations, remnants of every mythology across the world. And some were like nothing anyone had ever dreamed up, even in their worst nightmares.

Monsters.

Long ago, the barriers between our world and the Otherworld were ripped open, and it's taken centuries to bring back civilization in the wake. Now, the luckiest Cits live in enclosed communities, behind walls that keep them safe from the hideous monsters fighting to break through. Others are not so lucky.

To Joyeaux Charmand, who has been a Hunter in her tight-knit mountain community since she was a child, every Cit without magic deserves her protection from dangerous Othersiders. Then she is called to Apex City, where the best Hunters are kept to protect the most important people.

Joy soon realizes that the city's powerful leaders care more about luring Cits into a false sense of security than protecting them. More and more monsters are getting through the barriers, and the close calls are becoming too frequent to ignore. Yet the Cits have no sense of how much danger they're in - to them, Joy and her corps of fellow Hunters are just action stars they watch on TV.

When an act of sabotage against Joy takes an unbearable toll, Joy uncovers a terrifying conspiracy. There is something much worse than the usual monsters infiltrating Apex. And it may be too late to stop them.

I got the book the week the 2 for 1 book deal was going on so i wasn't sure if i would like it but took the chance anyway. I'm really glad I did because i was hooked. The begging of the book is slow i would even say kind of boring. I almost stopped listening but once the book gets started it was great

The world building isn't overwhelming or drown out the plot. It's fun to see Joy explore and move around in a new society she doesn't quite understand. It has that dystopian feel to it with out being a unrecognizable. Joy grows through out the book and is already a strong character but, she has her faults and doesn't allow them to hold her back. The book is written in first person so as a ready, her inner thoughts and feels are a big part of the story.

I really enjoyed the book the fight scenes are written very well and you really get an idea of what she is against. The book has a lot of components with the magic, futuristic, dystopian, gun slinger feel but it all fits together really well. The narrator was okay and they could have chosen a better one but she isn't bad. Overall i'm really glad i gave the book a chance because i really liked it. It's something new and fresh!

Slow beginning but glad i pushed through it!

Very enjoyable audiobook with good Narration and lots of action and many Interesting characters. Unfortunately, the author keeps repeating the same phrase many times. I know the author is making a point, but twice would have been enough. I recommend this audiobook.

Starts Slow But Stick with It

The best fantasy storytelling with shamanistic and traditional mage magic mixed with modern weaponry and disturbing
psychic abilities meets a pseudo Mocking Bird world with classical eastern philosophy values on a post apocalyptic stage - super fun!

wonderfully imaginative and entertaining

This book was enthralling! I loved the premise and the characters were so well flushed out, I already feel like I know them.

It did remind me a bit of hunger games but as I loved those books immensely, this is not a complaint. Can't wait until my credits refresh to buy the next one!!

I am hooked!!
