A mansion with a hellish past. A serial killer with a shadow. A city about to boil over. Having received a letter about a murder in the country mansion of Wild Boar Hall, Alderman James is only too happy to leave the city to investigate. For too long the seemingly endless cycle of murders in the Liberties has weighed on him.

While the Alderman investigates this pastoral distraction, a sinister plan is set in motion back in Dublin. One that has James at the very heart of it all! Fear and paranoia return to the streets and things are made worse still when a new killer realizes he has a fan—someone as good as he is at what he does, if not better!

Can Alderman James solve the case in Wild Boar Hall and put a stop to the impending carnage on the streets of Dublin? Buy now to find out!

This series is familiar to me now. It is like coming home. I was used to listening to the books before going to sleep - I already knew all the characters, their voices. I am sad I finished listening to the audiobooks. But be aware! The narrator of this book has American accent, so it may be a bit weird to listen to the English/Irish dialogues at first.

Hunting Down the Darkness: The Alderman James Mystery Thriller Series, Book 3, my fifteenth read from author European P. Douglas. A well-written, entertaining serial killer read, very Holmesian in tone, with intriguing, well-developed characters. 8-hours 59-minutes/406-pages that I read in a single setting. Chris Reynolds' narration adds nothing to an excellent book's enjoyment. “I received a complementary Audible copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review." The gifting of this book did not affect my opinion of it. I'll be reading more from this author with The Light Beneath the Cauldron (The Alderman James Mystery Thriller Series Book 4) already on my TBR list. (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 - July 24, 2018).

I listened to this book twice. There are so many characters and such a complicated plot. Then throw in an unfamiliar location, Ireland. Now I need to actually read the book so I get all the twists and turns! It is so well written and thought out. Then, of course, a cliffhanger for the next book.

The narrator, Chris Reynolds was not expressive enough for me. He didn't really enhance my excitement. He grew on me, though, because he is probably a good choice for Ireland in this era. So 4 stars for him.

Copycat murders.
