Hurricane Izzy starts innocently enough as a tropical wave off the coast of Africa. She quickly gains strength and speed as she fights her way across the Atlantic. In the way is Kitty Hawker Todd Richards, a dog he claims he doesn't own, and his girl on Roanoke Island.

This is a story of hope and strength that lie within the people of the Outer Banks of North Carolina. It illustrates their resiliency and teamwork in the face of the "storm of the century".

OBX is a wonderful little piece of paradise, but with it comes a price . . . the threat of hurricanes each year. We have experienced a few devastating ones in the 20+ years we have called the area our home. This book captures the spirit of our community, the grit, the closeness, the camaraderie, and heart of the people who call this place home. Definitely worth the read!

This book was amazing from beginning to end! I loved the story and the documentation of a very destructive hurricane which battered the OBX. I didn’t want to stop listening once I started!

Great book with a lot of OBX references!

As a resident of the OBX, the historical narrative is spot on. The author did a really nice job of interspersing a dramatic, painful, and frightening time in our history with a fictional backstory that ended just as I hoped it would. In the midst of horror, there is connection, rebirth, and yes...love.
