In Matheson's vampire classic I Am Legend, a plague has decimated the world and transformed the unfortunate survivors into bloodthirsty creatures of the night. Robert Neville is the last living man on Earth. Every other man, woman, and child has become a vampire hungry for Neville's blood. By day he is the hunter, stalking the sleeping undead through the abandoned ruins of civilization. By night he barricades himself in his home and prays for the dawn. How long can one man survive in a world of vampires?

This recording also includes a sampling of other horror stories by Richard Matheson, some comic, all scary: "Buried Talents", "The Near Departed", "Prey", "Witch War", "Dance of the Dead", "Dress of White Silk", "Mad House", "The Funeral", "From Shadowed Places", and "Person to Person".

the additional short stories seemingly of the same genre were no where's near the quality and seemed diluted, and difficult to finish

I am legend was an interesting listen, the rest no

The I am legend portion of this novel was great, a lot different than the movie however.

I wasn’t impressed with the “other stories.”

First half great, second not so much

hard to believe the movie came from this story. yes, there are a few elements that came through but this is way different. yet another movie that only gives lip service to the book.

book diverges so much from the movie

The story is engaging, if a bit annoying with so much sexism (all librarians are maidens who have never know the touch of a man & women are either helpless or temptresses) & weird obsession the protagonist has with sex. He can’t stop thinking about it. You start to worry he’ll turn out to be a rapist. I’ll never know, as the narrator does such a painful “female” voice in the third part of the story that I had to quit listening. It alternates between weekly trembling & terrified and shrill. If you want to read it, get the book instead.

Interesting, but Sexist Story - Horrible Narrator

I regret buying the version of "I Am Legend" with the additional stories. I'm glad I finally finished them, but not happy I listened to them. My OCD wouldn't let me start a new book until this one was finished.

Additional Stories :(
