This book is about a boy in the 4th grade who has some learning difficulties. He is struggling in school and has a teacher/principal who think that just focusing on the homework would make him a better student. Hank does study and his brain doesn't remember the next day. Hank is a good kid but feels that he is stupid. The local bully doesn't help and his parents learn easily so they are having to learn how to make learning easier for their son.
I read that Henry Winkler's parents called him a dumb dog because he also had learning difficulties. Dyslexia can go undiagnosed for years. My parents used the same name calling techniques and it resulted in the same outcome- a kid that struggles with learning to read, write and do math.
I'm enjoying the stories in this series and wish Audible had them in a collection and marked so it is easy to find the next book.
Hank, his friends and Papa Pete are a joy.

I gave it a 4 as an adul because it bothered me how hard Hank was on himself when he has trouble and calling himself stupid all the time was in some ways part of the charm of the books, but on the other a little disheartening as a parent.
Even so, the books were fun to listen to and i will get the next ones as they come.
All in all the books were all entertaining and the kids couldn't wait for me to start the car to continue with the story.
Other books we have enjoyed: Charlie and the chocolate factory. The Indian in the cupboard, the uglified duckie,The Call of the Wild.
Fun for the kids!
