Sixteen weeks into her second pregnancy, psychologist Jessica Zucker miscarried at home, alone. Suddenly, her career, spent specializing in reproductive and maternal mental health, was rendered corporeal, no longer just theoretical. She now had a changed perspective on her life’s work, her patients’ pain, and the crucial need for a zeitgeist shift. Navigating this nascent transition amid her own grief became a catalyst for Jessica to bring voice to this ubiquitous experience. She embarked on a mission to upend the strident trifecta of silence, shame, and stigma that surrounds reproductive loss—and the result is her striking memoir meets manifesto.

Drawing from her psychological expertise and her work as the creator of the #IHadaMiscarriage campaign, I Had a Miscarriage is a heart-wrenching, thought-provoking, and validating book about navigating these liminal spaces and the vitality of truth telling—an urgent reminder of the power of speaking openly and unapologetically about the complexities of our lives.

Jessica Zucker weaves her own experience and other women's stories into a compassionate and compelling exploration of grief as a necessary, nuanced personal and communal process. She inspires her readers to speak their truth and, in turn, to ignite transformative change within themselves and in our culture.

So grateful for this book. The information and compassion she shares can help individuals and our whole society.
I recommend it for anyone who has experienced miscarriage or other pregnancy or infant loss, or anyone who knows someone who has (which is everyone).

Incredible book! I started reading yesterday and haven’t been able to put it down. The author is so brave, real and raw and I couldn’t appreciate it more. I’ve never felt so understood in my journey. This season of life has felt so traumatic, cruel and full of confusion. Not feeling like anyone could possibly understand what I went through and also feeling the pressure to regain normalcy and overcome everything that has happened. It has taken me almost 10 months to finally feel confident enough to stop running from my trauma and face my grief head on. I was so drawn to this book and I am so very glad that I decided to read it. If you are trying to navigate grief after loss or even trying to relate to someone who is, this book is wonderful.

Amazing.

I loved this book! I decided to give it a read/listen in this case after my third miscarriage. I felt validated in how I was feeling and seen by a person I don’t know. Jessica wrote this book with so much feeling and I want to thank her for not only sharing her story but for letting me know it’s ok to grieve in whatever way.

Finally. A book that encompasses the many facets of grief from miscarriage. Hearing this text felt healing and I cried such necessary tears listening to it. I am so thankful for these words, and purchased a hard copy as well. Zucker’s impact on the loss community has only just begun.

Thank you, thank you, thank you.
