Also, I found the book 2 to be very disconcerting. This man was telling his son, the history of his life. A life in which he lied to suit his purpose. Lying to employers, to girlfriend, etc.
I also found it very disturbing that he was willing to turn a blind eye to South African apartheid excusing the Afrikaners because it suited his business goals. I suppose it goes hand in hand with his last statement about (paraphrasing here)-“being lucky to be born in America and blessed by God to be born in the south”.
