The origin of a gunslinger and a quest for revenge on the far edge of the Solar System.

We fight, we fall, our tales are told.

On the Saturnalian moon of Titan, Sergeant Arabella Smith, former soldier in the Republican Guard turned revolutionary, is at a crossroad. Face to face with the shadows of her past and the promises of her future, she must make a choice: embrace her new identity, or shatter it to reclaim her birthright.

Arabella was the daughter of two worlds and a resident of none. Her father came from the ruling elite and her mother from the marginalized Armanic people. Arabella’s privileged upbringing guarded her from prejudice, until her father’s murder sent her to the working-class districts. There she must take on a new name and avoid the bounty hunters who seek her family. Only by confronting her past, can she reimagine her future.

Ice Born is a standalone novel set in the award winning universe of the Midnight War series.

Ice Born by Adam Fernandez

This standalone novel in Adam's Midnight Wars Series is an origin story for the character Arabella as she has her entire life uprooted and turned on its head. Arabella as a young girl goes on the run with what is left of her family and has to come to grips with the reality of life outside of her relatively sheltered upbringing. Arabella's story is one of adaptive survival and revenge.

This novel was so well written with such detail into the world and ethnic diversity as humanity spread and adapted to the various planets and moons as they were colonized. There is also a lot to be said about the implied historical events that are hinted at throughout. It really speaks to how well thought out this universe is and it makes me want to dive into the rest of the series to learn more. Adam also did a great job with the character development of Arabella as she learns about the world and coming to grips with some really heavy stuff happening to her and her family.
