Das Mädchen Ida verbringt auf dem Hof seines Onkels Fery und seiner Frau Wanda in Oberquetschenbrunningen ihre Ferien. Sie wäre aber lieber bei ihrem Freund Klumpfuss geblieben und benimmt sich deshalb unmöglich. Doch mit der Zeit findet sie es gar nicht mehr so schlimm. Sie freundet sich mit dem Knecht Mischka, Hund List und dem Pferd Anastas an. Sie findet das Wort "Oberquetschenbrunningen" schrecklich und nennt es nur noch "ob". Onkel Fery nimmt Ida mit auf die Rennbahn...
