BJ Kincaid was a child prodigy who turned her brilliant mind into a multibillion-dollar tech empire with friends Emma and Jas. Quirky and socially awkward, BJ has Duke, the best guard dog in the whole world-even if he is a miniature poodle, a think-tank worth of ideas, and a ton of money. But she can’t buy love. Or a relationship she trusts. Or perhaps even her sanity. Because someone is stalking BJ in the cruelest way possible. Danger is closing in on her, putting her business and her life at risk.
To protect their friend and their company, Emma and Jas hire Brodie Maxwell, a veteran Marine who served with Emma’s late husband to watch over BJ. His job is to investigate the incursions into their company, find out who is gaslighting BJ, and protect her from the threat against her. An experienced warrior with the scars to prove it, Brodie makes one badass bodyguard. Brodie doesn't do warm and fuzzy, and he doesn't do love. Still, he triggers something primal in BJ she’s never felt before. This mountain of a man awakens her senses with his raw masculinity, and his utter loneliness speaks to her heart. Brodie will risk everything to keep the brainy beauty safe. But will the darkest of secrets Brodie keeps doom them to heartbreak… or death?
Make Mine a Marine: Sworn to duty. Bound by honor. Born to protect.
(This is an updated and expanded version of an earlier work.) **Each book in the series can be read as a standalone. No cliffhangers and a guaranteed happily-ever-after ending.**
One of the biggest challenges for me was the narration. Having a non-human narrator made it harder for me to connect with the story and the characters, and I honestly think the book might have received a better rating from me if the narrator had been human. That distance kept me from fully engaging with the emotions and relationships. While some readers may enjoy the unique perspective and genre blend, this one just didn’t click for me, and I don’t see myself picking up the next book in the series.
Could have been better.
