New York Times bestseller Christina Dodd has sold over five million historical romances! Find out why when you listen to In Bed with the Duke from her most popular series, the Governess Brides!

Demure lady's companion Emma Chegwidden never defies society's rules. Until the night she runs straight into the arms of the mysterious and menacing Reaper...a man who rides the night-shadowed countryside and conceals his identity behind a mask. His goal is justice...or is it vengeance?

Cynical, dangerous and ruthless, Michael Durant, long-lost heir to the duke of Nevitt, is the last man on earth that sensible Emma should defy. But some challenges are too tempting to resist, and some passions too fierce to ignore. Soon Michael discovers in Emma the woman he has longed for...a woman whose beauty and courage touch his tortured soul. He will defy anything, even fate itself, to claim her...

Critic reviews

"Classics never go out of style. A little black dress, a string of pearls, and a Christina Dodd romance." (New York Times best-selling author Lisa Kleypas)

"Fun main characters, a sinister villain, sizzling love scenes and a marvelous ending that will make strongwomen cheer." (Publishers Weekly)

Christina Dodd has become quite the storyteller. There is not much reference to The Distinguished Academy of Governesses, a couple of mentions of how Emma got her job and then at the end Lord Throckmorten showed up, so this could be a stand alone book.

There is a lot of intrigue which worked into the romance between our h/h. A really bad couple of villains and a supporting cast that kept the action going. Of course, there is a couple of rewarding sex scenes and the story was a grand slam.

Karen Cass has narrated this series and she has done a great job. A couple of mispronunciations, but overall she has been able to make the characters come alive and sound different. I am anxious for the next installment in September.

This series keeps getting better

Holy Cow, Christina!! This was one of the funniest "end-ings" you have ever written. Everyone read this book!! Karen Cass, the narrator, has a wonderful voice and her characters were fleshed out in my mind. Great JOB!!!

Viva La France! Uummmm….. England!

This book picks up after My Fair Temptress with Jude's older brother Michael who was presumed dead. He was held as a political captive and suffered in Moricadia. There is more of a political setting than Dodd's other books and more violence mentioned (since the current rulers are despots who took over the country by killing the previous ruling family) but wasn't overly graphic. Michael is willing to do anything to have his revenge though he believes it will end in his death, until he meets the heroine. Emma is cowed after years as the paid companion of a spiteful older woman but finds courage again having to face dangerous situations in order to protect those she loves. I also really liked several other more minor characters in this book and enjoyed listening.

A Great Read

This is the first in the series I couldn’t connect to. The MMC was so focused on his political aspirations and the whole plot was just unappealing.

This is the first in the series 3 stars
