Laurel Hodges has changed her identity twice. She’s been on the run for the past four years, trying to outdistance the gang members who blame her for the death of one of their own. She’s finally found peace and stability in the small town of Pineview, Montana. But just when Laurel thinks she and her children are safe... the nightmare starts all over again.

The Crew, a ruthless prison gang with ties to Laurel’s brother, will never forget, and they’ll never forgive. And now that they’ve finally tracked her down, they’ll stop at nothing.

Sheriff Myles King, who happens to live next door with his 13-year-old daughter, appoints himself Laurel’s personal guardian. His growing attraction to her could change his life - Myles is beginning to picture marriage and family. But it could also end his life. If he can’t save her, everything he’s built, everything he wants, could be destroyed. In seconds....

One of the most enjoyable books I have read in a long time. Love the characters & the story. Couldn't put it down. So glad it's a Trilogy. Great Narration.

Great Book

For the first two to three hours I was afraid this book would be like the first in the series; focused primarily on the romance and only secondarily on the suspense. But from that point on the story returned to Ms Novak's characteristic blend of suspense with a big dose of romance added. Ms Dawe is more of a narrator than performer, at least in this book. She wasn't terrible, doing a passable job of giving different voice to the characters but ultimately the voices all ended up being very similar. Her dry delivery with longish pauses between sentences seemed to drag out the story lessening both the emotion of the dialog and the suspense of the narration. Ultimately I couldn't help but think that with a bit better performance the story could have been a solid 4 but as it is it was hard to tell and I kept wondering if the book would be better read than listened to.

More like I expected

Extremely excellent book!

In Seconds got better as it moved along — or, I just became used to the narration, which I found sometimes grating, and to Brenda Novak’s style in relating this gritty, not attractive crime drama.

This genre isn’t one I’ve chosen more than perhaps ten percent of my listening library — if that. However, I’ve found that there are some excellent writers and narrators in this category, so I’ve expanded my listening horizons a bit and often been glad. There are some truly outstanding books in this category so I’ve been glad to have gone there.

Not great writing nor narration, and certainly not pretty characters nor scenarios but In Seconds was pretty good! I can imagine I might listen again somewhere down the line. Would I recommend to lovers of this genre? I’d say, sure, give it a go. Would I suggest to my friends and family? Likely not.

Pretty good crime-thriller

Continuing from the first book of this series, the bad bad guys are still coming. It is not entirely believable they are coming for the sister rather than the brother, but for the cause of a new romance, that is understood as necessary. It might have been handled a little differently to make it more believable.

On to the star of the show. The sheriff is a real heart throb and definitely deserved to be the romantic star.

Oh my what a guy
