Infection - The Fate of The Few

When the US intercepted a Chinese virus which they determined was meant to be unleashed on the United States within 48 hours, they had to act fast. If they could not find a vaccine to protect the country within 48 hours, the country would be defenseless against the attack. The normal process to find a vaccine could take months or longer. In a desperate attempt to find a cure before we were attacked, they did the unthinkable and released the virus in a small town in Western Pennsylvania in the hopes that under a real-world environment a cure could be found in days instead of months. However, when the virus was released, what happened next was something they could have never imagined.

Joe Bennet woke up today thinking about the great weekend he had planned for he and his wife. He had been planning for weeks. It was going to be a weekend that he would never forget. However, he would remember this weekend for as long as he lived, but not for the reasons he originally believed.

Captain Charlie Donaldson had spent years in the United States Air Force defending his country. He had spent the last ten years analyzing what our enemies were doing so we would be prepared for anything they could try. Even though Charlie thought he knew all the possible nightmare scenarios that could happen, today he would learn differently. Not only would he find what happened next hard to believe, but why it had happened was even worse.

Today they would both wake up to find that in their small part of the world everything had changed. They would also find that the people they had trusted to do the right thing had not only let them down but had decided in the grand scheme of things that they were worth more dead than alive.
