You think you’re struggling to find your place in the universe?

Consider poor old Colin Douglass, a terminally ill insurance agent who awakens from centuries in cryogenic freeze to find Earth is a devastated wasteland. Now, he’s being pursued by a homicidal interstellar tourist board, and calculating insurance dividends is as outdated as making stone axes.

Sci-fi-hating technophobe Colin embarks on a desperate struggle to find a cure for his illness, as well as a place for himself in this strange new galaxy where toilets talk back, and door handles are a long-forgotten relic. Only by teaming up with his rescuer, hard-boiled, space-traveling archaeologist Tyresa Jak (that’s Doctor Jak to you), can Colin hope to succeed before time runs out.

Along the way, this galactic odd-couple must evade the Erd Tourist Board - a powerful mega-corporation which will do anything to ensure the mythical Earth stays mythical - and deal with a crackpot religious cult who not only possess a cure for Colin’s illness, but who also believe there is more to this caveman from Earth than meets the eye....

Don't miss the start of this side-splitting intergalactic adventure. It's perfect for fans of Guardians of the Galaxy, The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, and Space Team.

Mix of Hitchhiker Guide to the Galaxy and Rip van Winkle. Very British humor, dry and witty. It has interesting take on how the future evolves. You can't help but feel sorry for poor Colin. Everything goes wrong for him no matter how hard he tries.

The contrast between Tyresa and Colin makes for lots of funny scenes. The story itself is a bit fantastical but that isn't really the point with a comedy. I can't wait until the next book is out.

The narrator did a good job with the voices and his pacing made the story exciting in the right places. It was like listening to a British movie or TV show.

I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

So I made it through. Barely. The story was good, but the narrator. Holy hell the narrator. When he was just narrating his voice was fine, but when he did any one of the voices it was horible. 70 percent of the charecters just sniveled and whined the ENTIRE BOOK. The other 30 percent of them where just voiced so incredibly over the top I almost turned it off multiple times. Just 10 hours of whining in my ear. Dont think I can make it through the next book.

Man I really wanted to like this one

Karl Beecher channels Douglas Adams in this kooky sci-fi adventure of an insurance analyst IN SPAAAACE. But seriously, who can pass up the chance to ride the Evolutionator and explore the original pool of slime where life began? Oh, and sweet bonus: there's plentiful parking at Erd (the future name of Earth). For the complete experience, read this book with a British accent in mind, or better yet, listen to Steve West’s top notch audiobook narration.

The book reminded me of the We Are Bob series. Except, I think this one is better. It's a very smooth listen (not uneven, like many books I've listened to). If you like funny sci-fi, I highly recommend it. Narration was very good as well. Looking forward to listening to the sequel.

If you like the Bobiverse series...

This isn't a Isekai novel, but really it might as well be. The way it starts. It's really similar to Denis E Taylor's Bobiverse. Starting out with a cryogenic pod. But from there everything goes ascue. I immediately fell for Colin the MC. Empathizing with the predicament he finds himself in... then waking up where no 20th century guy has gone before. With a whole new reality awaiting him.
Karl Beecher writes with a light touch and it shows up in the book. So go grab the book and be entertained as Steve West gives us a superb performance.

And a couple of quotes...

"Shoot first, ask questions, then shoot some more."

"And we can't even find a man who sticks out like a Bic on a wedding cake."

"He suddenly became aware of his eye brows, which had lifted so high up his forehead they were close to adding a couple of centimeters to his height."

Starts out just like a Isekai novel as MC wakes.
