Into Darkness is the fifth episode in Terry Goodkind's new serial novel, The Children of D'Hara. Told in irresistibly intense installments, this is the story of a world confronted by an apocalyptic nightmare.

The insatiable hunger of Golden Goddess....

The irresistible power of a Witch's Oath....

A fracture in the world of life....

An opening in the world of death....

Richard Rahl and Kahlan Amnell face the perfect storm.

"The Sword of Truth series was my masterwork. Yet, life for these characters goes on after the conclusion of that series. For years readers have been asking about Richard and Kahlan's children. This is that story." (Terry Goodkind)

In 1994 Wizard's First Rule introduced Richard Cypher, a young woodsman seeking answers and vengeance in the aftermath of his father's murder, and Kahlan Amnell, a mysterious young woman pursued by a bloodthirsty tyrant's assassins. The Sword of Truth is one of the most ambitious fantasy series ever written. It was a decades-long masterwork that has been translated into 20 languages and sold 26 million copies.

After 16 volumes and one novella, it concluded in 2016 with Warheart. The Children of D'Hara picks up immediately after the conclusion of the Sword of Truth series. The story will be told in installments, as novella-length episodes published every three months. Into Darkness is the fifth novella.

I started my journey with the Wizards First Rule back in 2012. I now finish it here with Into Darkness. I will miss the wait for the next adventure of Richard, but I will never stop bringing new people to experience it for themselves. Terry Goodkind you are missed. Thank you for your writings.

There may be inadvertent spoilers ahead so keep that in mind. I'll try and warn when or if I may spoil something. Like many I've been here since Wizards First Rule. I believe Dick Hill (Jack Reacher narrator early on) did the original WFR narration. Then for some good forsaken reason they start using more and more different narrators. With almost every land, beast, spell, person and occupation being made up just for the books makes it difficult for different narrators to pronounce everything the same. The Temple in the Winds ruined it for me. By this book our main characters and lands have been talked about so much they seem like old friends. Now either Mr. Goodkind didn't care or didn't know, but Dick Hill changed the pronunciation of several lands and people. Even changing the 2nd most important character in the books first name. No longer Kay-lyn, but Kah-lyn. Drove crazy. At least 3 more different narrators. Fortunately, Sam Tsoutsouvas came back. He reread WFR. Started being the regular narrator about 10 books ago. This series The Children of D'hara was very good. I'd of rather had one WFR size novel instead of 5 or 6 novellas. Fortunately, ******SPOILERS AHEAD****** Tery Hoodkind has announced in 2021 the return of the Richard and Kahlan novels proper. Now than the Rahl family is up two new members that are both gifted and both the first child born to a confessor in a long time. Also, the first offspring of a Confessor and The Seeker of Truth as well as the most powerful War Wizard in over 1000 years. We'll get to see twins Kara Rahl and Zeddicus Rahl grow up and hopefully see the powers those children possess. Especially the boy. Not being sexist a swear. I just recall that a male confessor is extremely powerful. I'm not sure if that knowledge was from the books or The Legend of the Seeker series. Don't skip this book though if your even the smallest fan. As mentioned my issue is the way it was broken up. If I wanted any full length audio book from audible it's one credit. 5 pages or 5000 its 1 credit. WFR, Stone of Tears, etc. All 1 credit. The Children of D'Hara is 1 credit per installment. So I end using 5 credits for the whole story when every other full story was 1 credit.
So don't just grab Into Darkness. Get all of them. We're introduced to at least one new character that I hope continues on into the next novel. Shale the witchwonan, Part Shota part Nicky maybe? I hope she sticks around. I still miss Kara and Zed though. At least they'll continue on in name anyway.

A very well done Richard and Kahlan story.

I actually am super excited again to see where this goes. I have waited for a male Confessor for a long time.

A great end to a fine series

Fantastically beautiful. Terry Goodkind continues to deliver pure gold. Thankful for a continuation of Lord Rauls journeys.

AMAZING

Where the Sword of Truth series struggled with pacing at times, the Children of D'Hara didn't have that problem at all. Terry Goodkind at his best. Highly recommended.
