Kanazawa in Ishikawa Prefecture is one of the big cities that represents the Hokuriku region. 石川県の金沢市は、北陸地方を代表する大都市の一つ。
江戸時代には、大名では最大の領地を誇った加賀藩の城下町として栄えました。
加賀藩の歴代藩主は、文化を保護し、伝統を継承することに熱心で、金箔や加賀友禅、毛針や九谷焼など多くの伝統工芸が、現在まで受け継がれています。
また、金沢は戦争の被害に遭わなかったことから、江戸時代の町並みが今も残ります。芸妓が行き交う茶屋街や、江戸情緒たっぷりの武家屋敷などが、散策コースとして人気です。
