A dazzling Audible Original written by Natalie Cooper, performed by Jenna Coleman (Victoria, The Cry)

Iris Nightingale is more than okay. She has her life planned out to a perfect schedule. Work, run, sleep, repeat. She spends her quiet Friday nights sitting alone on a bench in the park, trying to push back the memories that no amount of running can help her escape.

But one evening, there’s someone else on her bench - Hunter. Tall, wry and infuriating: everything about him gets under Iris’s skin. Little does she know that he's about to upset more than just her routines...

Hired as a consultant at the firm where Iris works as engineering manager, Hunter has a knack for knowing just what to say to irritate her, and Iris can’t help rising to the spark in his eyes each time.

Sent away on a work trip together, Iris is taken out of her comfort zone. As their connection deepens, will Iris finally be able to face the memories that have been haunting her for years? Can her blossoming relationship with Hunter survive some brutal truths?

Only one thing is certain: The spark between them is beyond Iris’s expertise, and there's no running away from it.

Both a running theme and advice to the reader: hang in there! It’s hard to understand Iris’ perspective (and sometimes lack thereof) when she responds so defensively to Hunter both externally and internally. But hang in there! There’s much to learn about both characters and the way their relationship and the story plays out is SO satisfying.

Definitely a story to pin for re-listening.

A very enjoyable listen while driving. I found the story a bit slow in parts, but after listening to the entire book, the slow parts helped to build up to huge twists I didn’t see coming.
When the first twist hit, I actually sat up straight and gasped!
I’m glad I gave Iris a try. Not my usual genre but am going to find more Natalie Cooper books.

Enjoyed the book overall - lots of snarky snippy sarcasm that had strong underlayment of humor and warmth. Overlaying this is a woman's anger and sorrow and guilt surrounding her husband who was gone (reader does not know why) which fully support her anxiety. I struggled with her justifying and defending her anxiety and anger and had to remind myself a lot she was emotionally really wounded. The resolution of all the above made for an intriguing and finally endearing story. Jenn Coleman's narration stood out in a truly positive way.

Pretty good
