Jason Marlez, an orphan who lives with his grandparents in New York City, has never had any friends. He is often seen by people as a freak, but things change when he is visited by a man who tells Jason that he’s a Nydarian, or a wizard, and that dragons, goblins, and all of those creatures are very much alive, and that these monstrous creatures often pursue young Nydarians and try to kill them. He is then escorted to Camp Orthri, a safe place for Nydarians, which is protected by an enchanted barrier.

While at camp, Jason and his new friends are startled when an ogre is given access into the camp and starts to wreak havoc. During this attack, a highly secure document is stolen from the camp’s Confidential Records Room, which contains information about a powerful item which could be used by the Fallen Dark Lord Cordor to regain his powers, and once again plunge the world into darkness.

Now Jason and his friends, Emily Lorman and David Hamilton, must stop Cordor and his servant from stealing this item, The Wizard’s Stone, which is kept in Dablanor, an ancient mine in Mojave Desert. The quest takes Jason and his friends, with his new dragon friend, Grandor, who was once his father’ dragon, across the country. And there are many dangers along the way such as goblins, spirits of the living dead, and many more. Will Jason, Emily, and David stop Cordor’s return, or will they die on this perilous quest?
