What do I mean by “Jesus in Harmony?” I have always been fascinated by history; almost any history. During a spiritually weak moment in my life, I was beginning to have doubts about myself, God, and whether the Bible was really the word of God or just a bunch of poems and mythological stories. This was during the eighties when I was in my twenties. I, for some reason, decided I should read through the Bible again. It did not take long for me to reach Genesis Chapter 5 which many consider to be one of the most boring parts of the Bible. A list of genealogies from Adam to Noah.
As I read through the numbers, I began to wonder about the accuracy of these numbers. I decided to make a chart of who “Begat” (KJV) whom and the ages of the begotten (the descendants). I went on from there and began to study the other genealogies in the Bible and many of the other dates and time frames recorded throughout the Word of God. After discovering the accuracy of the numbers and dates in the Bible and experiencing a personal revival in my life as well, I began to study the lives of the Patriarchs. I studied their walks with God and I created timelines on their lives mostly using information from the Bible itself.
Throughout all of my studies, I had never thoroughly undertaken a study on the life of Jesus. At least not my own study. At the time I was co-teaching an adult Sunday School class and it was time to choose a new subject for the class. I told Kevin, the other teacher, I could come up with my own lessons and I would like to do a study on the life of Jesus. I knew I needed to make the lessons where he could follow my thoughts and he also reminded me to ask lots of questions to keep the participants involved.
I knew I could not do a study just following one of the Gospels. I needed to mesh the four Gospels together. Of course, wanting to do the study “chronologically,” I would have to analyze each Gospel. I had already been dissatisfied with all the “Harmonies of the Gospels” I had looked at seeing what I have always concluded were obvious errors in their timelines. I knew if I was going to put this study together I would have to do it in what I thought would be the correct chronological order. So I started with John 1 which led me to Genesis 1 and I wrote Section One “The Christ Eternal.” It did not take long to figure out it was going to take much longer to put a study together as thoroughly as I wanted to make it.
I decided instead I would write a blog. I know nothing about blogs. I was several sections into my writing when I finally figured out “Hey, I’m writing a book!” My high school English teachers are rolling over in their graves right now! After four or five years or more of research and writing, I have completed “Jesus in Harmony.” I am proud of what I have written. A godly pride I think! I believe you will be edified by what I have written. Not only are you going to learn more about the history of Jesus, but we will look at the teachings of Jesus as well.
When I began writing Jesus in Harmony, which at the time I did not realize, would end up becoming a book, I knew I would not be satisfied only telling part of the story of the life of Jesus. To the best of my ability, I have written about every recorded event in the 33 ½ year life of Jesus as He walked this earth as well as His documented activities after His resurrection. I have examined the four Gospels from beginning to end. I have looked at some of the Old Testament prophecies about the coming Messiah and have touched on a few of the New Testament Scriptures which continue with the history and message of the Christ...
