We meet pivotal figures such as Simon Bar Kokhba but also some of those lesser-known women of the era like Berenice, a Jewish princess who played a major role in the politics of the Great Revolt and was improbably the love of Titus—Rome’s future emperor and the man who destroyed Jerusalem and the Temple.

Barry Strauss excels again

The thing I love about Strauss's histories is his ability to take a topic that I thought I knew well, then expand on it with concisely presented details that feel fresh and meaningful.

Outstanding

What an interesting and incredible book. Highly recommend this but for Roman history buffs or for anyone wanting a deeper understanding of Jewish history.

The Jews Persist.

I enjoyed the comparison of historical sources from the multiple Jewish revolts.
I especially enjoyed the BarKokhba description.
Definitely worth the time, and explains the widening chasm between Jews and the early, Jewish church.

Great Read.

Enjoyed the read. Great history. Powerful story. Interesting to compare and contrast America and Europe (Rome today) and the Jews. Glad Rome won.

Disappointed by narration

Great story, impossible to listen Jacques’s narrative. Was always interested in the story but this one was too hard to follow.
