I was bummed at first when the narrative actor switched, but Mr. Smith has grown to be my favorite rendition of the pithy, ostentatious Heir Cabal.
I like all of these shorts; and like the author, often prefer short story anthologies. The Long Spoon would be my favorite in this case-5*. The rest are between 3&4.5. Definitely worth the listen.
It was ideal for me, as a realtor, to be able to enjoy one of my favorite anti-heroes single adventures all in a days intermittent work. And the. Again the next!

Mostly Great!

Emulating the Victorian style of English fiction is tricky at best, especially for modern audiences. Mr. Howard does an extremely fine and entertaining job of it. His characterizations are extraordinary, and as much as a cad as the protagonist is, Johannes Cabal, you can't help but root for him.

The narrator, Mr. Smith, makes this audio book extraordinary. I have added another narrator to my list of favorite readers. The list is now up to six.

Thank you Audible for making this collection of short stories available in the Plus Catalog. I will now go find his full length books.

A Fine Writer and Narrator

Been a casual fan of the series since high school, and quite enjoyed. This both acts as a good introduction and nightcap to the series, chronologically fitting both ends while never forgetting to give that good farcical fix you've been missing in your life. The tales are short, good for a listen on a drive or on a lunch break. narration was nice and wry as intended, though there were some minor crossfading issues only really noticable on headphones. Overall recommended.

Stylish, funny. and easily digestible

I'm not usually a fan of short stories. The author explains that he grew up being a fan of the format during his forward. He must have learned some great lessons from those short stories of his childhood; this collection is great.

Great fun for short term bursts.
