It’s March 1918, and World War I is raging in Europe. In the trenches in northern France, a group of British officers, led by the war-weary Captain Stanhope, ready themselves for a major German attack while facing their worst fears.

R.C. Sherriff drew on his own experiences in World War One to create the play, which premiered in 1928 and is now considered one of the preeminent works about the horrors of war.

Brief, well done.

Narration is excellent, professional.

I don’t get the point of this short story. Is it a vignette of the horrors of trench warfare, battle fatigue, the fraying of combatants’ nerves, the idiocy of WW1 leadership? I suppose it could be any one or all of these things.

In any event, the production is excellent.

Gripping and powerful.

Gripping and powerfully done, it brought home the horrors of the trenches in WW1 and the ordinary soldiers sent to live and die on someone else’s orders. The LATW production is excellent.
