The narrator is difficult to understand and often slurring words. The cadence of his voice is annoying and even seems a bit inauthentic. I even switched to having the Kindle version of the book read with a not very good AI voice—I wasn’t sure which was worse. I’m re-reading the Thomas Hardy novels that I loved as a teenager but listening to this version of Jude the Obscure has been a chore rather than a pleasure.
