Dave Denton built what should have been a much longer-lasting career in the United States Army.

But after his wife and daughter are murdered, and the prime suspect is released due to police misconduct during his arrest, Major Denton realizes he can no longer imagine a life in government service. He decides to resign his commission and become a civilian, but what he truly wants is retribution. Just as Dave begins his quest for justice, however, the killer is quickly arrested again on felony drug charges, and sent to prison for several years.

Dave decides he can wait, and settles into a position in the family construction business with his beloved brother Hal. Hal assigns a secretary to assist Dave in his work, the quiet and charming Donna. While Dave finds Donna’s beautiful face and wholesome manner alluring, Dave’s gentle and decent nature inspire a trust that Donna has never known.

For Donna is haunted by a terrible secret. Orphaned and sent to live with abusive relatives, Donna ran away from home as a teenager and traveled to the big city in search of a better life. But the naive young Donna became trapped in a web of corruption, violence, and debauchery from which most could never have escaped.

As Dave and Donna grow closer, each envisions a wonderful new chapter of life on the horizon. Their journey will force them to confront their pasts, draw strength from each other, and learn the true meaning of love and friendship.

Irene should have stayed alive and took over the business. Donna was way to niave

the first part of the book was too much detail on Donna and Irene.

At its core, this is a good, complicated plot, but the stereotypes of the men and women are grating and the dialogue is hackneyed. Both men and women are in a constant state of heat which becomes boring pretty quickly. The AI actor's voice isn't ready for prime time And is particularly distracting , when it's clinical coldness collides with the hot sex scenes and when it emphasizes words in a wrong way. That's could have been way better than it is.

A Good story and search of good writing and narration.
