Kentucky Grit is a largely fictional account about the Charles Spurlock family of Southwestern Virginia during the Civil War. As the war raged on in late 1862, Confederate raiders burned the family farm and murdered Charles forcing the family to flee across the Cumberland Gap into Harlan, Kentucky. The two oldest brothers William and Richard travel to Central Kentucky to join the Union Army as mountain scouts. They encounter a cast of characters and skirmishes as they deploy their considerable mountain skills to help prevent the rebel scourge from overtaking Central Kentucky. After their distinguished service, they reunite with family in Harlan and mete out their own brand of justice on the scoundrel responsible for their father's death.
