Dorothy Martin is fitting in comfortably in her new English home, and now that her policeman husband, Alan, has retired, she’s looking forward to some quiet time with him. But then the letter arrives: an old acquaintance in Indiana has died and left her a small inheritance. It seems an excuse to travel back to the States and take a well-deserved vacation.

Dorothy should have known better. As well as the money, Kevin Cassidy has left a note predicting his own murder. It seems absurd; the beloved professor was ninety-six when he died, apparently from pneumonia. But Alan and Dorothy know about innocent facades. As Dorothy begins to investigate, Alan discovers that his wife’s sleuthing is hard work . . . and that here, Dorothy is very much in charge.©2000 Jeanne M. Dams; (P)2001 Books on Tape, Inc.

This is an entertaining, well written "cozy" mystery.

Dorothy Martin is a retired American teacher who emigrated to England. Her husband, Alan Nesbitt, is a retired Scotland Yard police officer. I enjoy their relationship. It's an interesting and well balanced combination. Both are very intelligent. When trying to solve a mystery, Dorothy can be a little over enthusiastic. Alan's years of investigating crime helps to keep them "on task".

This book was published in 2000. Computers and cell phones were not prevalent. Even though I love my computer, it's refreshing to read a story where there is less reliance on technology. There is no graphic violence, sex or crude language. This is a relaxing book, great for listening as I fell asleep.

Dorothy and Alan traveled to her old home town in Indiana to solve the murder of her old pal. They are a real team now, like Tommy and Tuppence. Recommended

best team since Tommy and Tuppence

I try a lot of authors I don’t know. It was a pleasure to listen to one who is articulate and who has a command of story and plot. I will definitely look for more of the same.
