"Sensationally good. Cleverly conceived and brilliantly executed. One of the great thrillers of the last century." (Charles Cumming)

I really enjoyed This book from start to finish.
This could make for an exciting Thriller on the movie Scream.

the best thriller ever

Tight plot and plenty of thrills. Davidson's descriptive detail is impressive - geography, weapons, shipping hoists and motors all spring to life. Renaissance man Johnny Porter, the main character, convincingly jerri-riggs his way out of every shape of scrape. And he manages to get the girl... or does he? Well written to boot.

The thinking person's Bond

Filled to the brim with unnecessary detail, plotholes and boring characters. Worst of all were the protagonist. We never get to know him because he is always acting some other character. He is dull and without motivation or passion. And the women in this book... Can't say why any of them were attracted to him, but 2/3 had to get drunk first before shagging him. I have also learnt that Phillip Pullman and I have very different tastes in books.

Dreadful
