Well-behaved children have nothing to fear from Krampus, right?

Hans and Helga face a nasty encounter with bully Johan as the days to Christmas count down. But bullies are not the only threat the village children face. Krampus is long overdue to pay a visit. Chickens and ducks have gone missing, with hoof prints leading away. Good children like Hans and Helga have nothing to fear, or do they? Johan knows he's a target. What plot is he hatching to save himself? Is Krampus smart enough to see through it?

Krampus Comes to Town is a novella of treachery and sacrifice.

I was fascinated by this horror novella. I listened to the audiobook in one sitting as the story captivated me. The story opened with a disturbing incident, and the horror continued until the end. The tale featured Krampus, who was a scary creature believed to punish misbehaving children at Christmastime according to central European legend. Through the author's use of descriptive phrases, the horror was more palpable than stated, even though Krampus played a role. John Dunleavy's narration was great, and his performance enhanced the story's entertainment. I was given a free copy of the audiobook, and I have voluntarily posted this review.

My first introduction to Krampus came a bunch of years ago during Call of Duty Vanguard's Festive Fervor event. At the time, I had to look him up because I didn't understand the character. Knowing how terrifying Krampus had been then, I jumped into this story before I had all my Christmas decorations away and the spirit of the season was gone.
I'm not serious about my title. Don't decide to listen to this with your kids before previewing it first! The fear from the children in the book is vivid. An adult will find the story amusing, but young ones might be terrified. On the other hand, those tweens that think they know it all might learn a lesson from this story. It reads a bit like a fable and the narrator has the German accent to make it even more believable.
The stakes are a little higher than the Disney-type fairy tales, so again, be ware of sharing with younger children. I do think Hans Kristian Andersen would approve of this story though!

I have always loved the legend of Krampus and was excited when I saw got the chance to review this ARC audio. I was not disappointed. The story was entertaining and well thought out and was short for an audio book (less than 3hrs) I was able to listen to it in one sitting.

John Dunleavy was the narrator and did amazing. I was a little worried at first with the accent but I was able to get used to it. He excels at all the voices he does and brings the story to life.

So if you like a bit of a dark holiday tale give this book a shot. You will not be disappointed.
