LAPD detective Michael Gideon and his K-9 partners try to outmaneuver not one but two serial killers, while investigating the suspicious death of a woman who belonged to a cult.

When a woman in Bel Air dies of a rattlesnake bite, the case doesn’t seem to fit the usual purview of LAPD’s Special Cases Unit. But Carrie Holder was no ordinary LA woman. She was a member of the city's latest cult, the Church of the Gate, which counts Hollywood's movers and shakers among its devotees.

Investigating the cult's secrets takes Detective Michael Gideon, his German shepherd K-9 partner, Sirius, and pit bull rescue Emily across Los Angeles's canyons, neighborhoods, and movie studio lots - but all the while, an even darker threat looms closer. The All-In Killer has left a trail of victims across the Southwest, but he's no longer content to couch his threats in poker clues - the latest crime scene leaves no doubt that he's coming for Gideon, and Sirius, too. With the FBI pressuring Gideon to visit Ellis Haines, aka the Weatherman, for insights on the case, can Gideon outwit not one but two serial killers?

As a mystery and dog lover, I have enjoyed each of the Gideon and Sirius books. This is one of the best, and although standing by itself, it both completes a circle, and leaves the door open for continuing in the next book. Thoroughly enjoyable!

Another winner!

I love, love, love the Gideon and Sirius novels. The are wholly entertaining. Funny too. As as dog lover who’s had some pretty sharp dogs in the past I can appreciate the cunning and intellect of Gideon’s sidekick. Sad to here their will only be one more book in the series. I feel like Gideon. Lizbeth, Seth, Sirius and Emma are old friends. I will truly miss these great stories.

One of my favorite authors

Another good one

Although I have had many breeds of dogs in my life, German Shepherd Dogs are my favorite. When other kids watched Lassie, my favorite was Rin Rin Tin. I am only sad that the Kennel Club has made life so hard for GSDs with their insane standards. I can feel the love this author has for our canine companions. They have made my life worthwhile by their examples of loyalty and love. So glad they are portrayed in such a wonderful series.

Love these stories!!!

I think I’ve read most of Mr. Russell‘s books. Which tells you that I do enjoy a good mystery and especially if it’s got a dog Superhero. However the last couple books that I read ...either I’m getting smarter or the plots aren’t quite as intricate as I once suspected. I hate it when I’ve got it figured out and the characters are still stumbling around in the dark. Especially when the characters are set up to be darn good at what they do.
