Lacey Patterson and Mackenzie “Mack” Walker had not really seen each other in the eleven years since they had graduated from high school in Madsen, Texas, the small city surrounded by ranches and farmland.

Mack had gone on to law school, been married and annulled, and now had returned to Madsen to join a local law firm. On the other hand, Lacey had never left Madsen, but had attended the community college and was now working with a good job in a large auto dealership managing the business office and staff.

In a chance encounter in a restaurant, they decide to do something they had never done before: go out on a date.

But there was something about Mack in the past that haunts and also excites and electrifies Lacey. Near the end of their senior year of high school, Lacey and Mack had been two of four eighteen-year-old seniors who had left the school building and gone for a joyride that ended up in a minor drag racing accident.

Facing a choice of a grade – damaging suspension or one of the principal’s memorable paddlings, only the grade-conscious Lacey and Mack opted for the corporal punishment.

The lingering memories of the brief span of time required for that scenario to play out for the two of them together in the school office turned out to stoke a fire between the two of them, and now they must deal with the feelings involved.
