Journalist Rease McCallan thought she’d seen her fair share of city scandals, but nothing could have prepared her for a string of “overdoses” that just don’t add up. When Police Chief David Longbrooke is called to the scene of yet another suspicious death, something nags at him—none of the victims have a history of drug use.

Despite their recent friction, Rease is determined to prove there’s more to the case, much to David’s frustration. But when he can’t shake the feeling that she might be right, he digs deeper, uncovering a grieving group of families who share the same suspicions.
