Brushing up

I would never recommend the Learn In Your Car series for learning a language from scratch. I don't buy this idea that adults can learn by "picking up" phrases. Yes, children learn that way, and then adults spend several years correcting children's grammar because they are not coherent.

You simply cannot learn German, a very structured language, by repeating phrases. Nevertheless I'm finding these lessons very useful. I haven't spoken German for 30 years but it's all coming back. So I would highly recommend this series for brushing up a rusty language, or building vocabulary for a language you're currently learning.

I give one star for learning the language and five stars for vocabulary, so I'll compromise with three.

If you want to learn from scratch in your car, I recommend the Pimsleur system.
