Any additional comments?
I really like Henry Raymond’s Learn in Your Car French 1 with reservations. Here are my reasons for liking and disliking this program:1. Good native French speaker but talks much too fast. Listen to the audio sample on this page and then shoot over to Power French Accelerated by Mark Frobose and compare the two native speaking voices. You decide.
2. Relevant vocabulary. This is perhaps the strongest point to be make in favor of Learn in Your Car French 1. Very good choice of vocabulary.
3. Clear English translation before French is given. I like this and it helps me to learn French. But listen to Paul Noble’s and Mark Frobose’s French teaching. They explain more and interact more with the student. I personally like this involvement.
4. Both Noble and Frobose have good memory techniques built into their programs. Pimsleur French is excellent for this too. I have not found any memory technique being used with Learn in Your Car French Level 1. This doesn’t mean it isn’t a good program. It does mean you have to go back and review on your own.
Conclusion: I gave Learn in Your Car French 4 stars because it is a solid French program without the bells and whistles you get with other courses. I would venture to say that Learn in Your Car French would be perfect if you were to use it along with Frobose’s Power French or with Pimsleurs French 1. Just my opinion, but this combination worked wonders for my French.
Better With Power French
