»Ein Rotschopf war sie. So süß wie sonst was.

The story is great ... a classic. The translation often doesn't accurately capture the character of the original novel, especially the language. At times, it's as if you're reading a sophisticated and stilted Agatha Christie novel set in rural England during the interwar period, rather than a hard-boiled Raymond Chandler noir detective thriller set in corrupt early 1940s metro Los Angeles – with all its distinctive characters and dialogue. The reading is also a bit bland, lacking a powerful interpretation that could better bring out the flavor of the story. However, it is nice to have it available read in German, even if imperfect.
