Reframing Our Impact on Humanity

Are you finding it difficult to positively engage with people who view the world differently than you do?

Do you feel the heaviness of our societal and political divides?

Have you seen evidence of the erosion of humanity?

The important work of human and cultural understanding has been nested in thorny political agendas that often don’t invite healthy exchange. Rather than feed into the political divide, Dr. Kyle Reyes presents an approach to understanding differences that prioritizes humanity.

The framework and structure of this book are born from the belief in lens development—the deliberate effort to see things anew—because when we see things anew, a change in our behavior follows. Humanity requires work unique to the individual and the collective, and Dr. Reyes introduces a new framework that invites us to improve how we show up in the world and engage with others.

Personal growth and transformation come from honest reflection and self-analysis. In Lenses of Humanity, Dr. Reyes illustrates how we can improve and develop more human understanding, embrace humane practices, and find deeper connections across differences so we can be more deliberate in living our lives with greater humanity.

I agree with Reyes that the work of improving humanity begins with honest self-reflection every day of our lives. Michael Jackson captured this idea powerfully in “Man in the Mirror,” urging us to look inward and change ourselves before expecting the world to change: “If you wanna make the world a better place, take a look at yourself and then make a change.” True progress, however, does not end with introspection alone. It requires empathetically learning about others—listening to experiences different from our own and recognizing our shared humanity. Only then can we begin to build communities where people engage with one another respectfully and equitably.

I got so much from the audio version of the book that I bought a paperback as well to be able to highlight and refer back. I will be better at listening and asking questions to understand the lenses of those I interact with after having read this book. Implementing lessons taught in this book would lessen contention and build understanding.

Inspiring and Insightful Book

Lenses of Humanity is a beautiful reminder of what really matters — connection, belonging, and seeing each other with open eyes and open hearts. In a world that can feel noisy and divided, this book brings you back to something deeper.
It’s not just about understanding others — it’s about understanding yourself too. Every chapter feels like an invitation to slow down, reflect, and reconnect in a more meaningful way. By the end, it doesn’t feel like you just finished a book. It feels like you’ve had an experience — one that stays with you and quietly shifts how you move through the world.

The author does a great job giving insights into understanding and loving others- specifically those different from yourself. He goes on to explain action steps to help really see others clearly.

This week we did an exercise where We had to recognize the 3 people that have influenced more in our lives during this year.

Dr Kyle Reyes is on my list.

I have cried several times while I shared with my wife what the chapters in this book mean to me as a Immigrant that knows that there should be a better way to mingle in cultures and be enriched by that unique experience.

This book is a must for all of us that shared a true love for our world.
