The medical examiner's report shows some similarities to each murder, but the victims are strangers with nothing in common. A third murder victim found under a bridge on the Buffalo Bayou confirms Houston has a serial killer on the loose. Three very diverse people are dead—are these hate crimes, and if so, how many more will die? The clock is ticking; Jack and his team need to catch this killer before another body shows up.

gun cocking sound

still don't care for the gun cooking sound in between chapters. story line is good. looking forward to the next release on audible.

Liked story not performance

The story was interesting and kept me engaged. I love the characters and the interplay. The crimes were nasty and it’s a good mystery to follow as they solve it. Unfortunately the narrator has the challenge of having to voice 4 sometimes 5 male voices having conversations and doesn’t seem consistent. The main character’s voice is sometimes too goofy and I didn’t like the choice for his partner’s voice. Finally there’s this irritating sound effect that plays between scenes that I think is supposed to sound like slide of a gun (sorry not gun person). But the crimes are stabbings and the sound just doesn’t work.

Undeveloped?

The narrator wasn’t bad but needs to work on his voices. The unsub’s voice sounds like Roz on Monsters Inc 😂 it truly was terrible and the other voices aren’t consistent. The gun cocking sound for chapter changes are cheesy & have no connection with the story. And the writing was a bit cliche & offensive at times. But the overall story was interesting

Very stereotypical gay characters!

Jack seems like a solid detective and not homophobic- but the author is writing the gay characters as Nelly limp wristed guys that only go to closeted gay bars. Does Deanna have any gay friends? Or at least a gay editor who
Can read through the book to make them a little less offensive?

Interesting story

I liked the story, which is why I listened to the end. However, I didn’t like the narrator. I didn’t like the voices of his chat made & he read the story without any emotion or feeling. Pretty bad!!
