Nations are built on faith. Wars are fought on lies.

A President chosen in secret. A soldier fighting an unwinnable war. A cartel fixer caught between survival and loyalty. A journalist who cannot escape the story.

What if the United States had never conquered the West? What if Deseret, a Mormon republic born in 1851, survived into the twenty-first century as a nation of faith, secrecy, and steel?

In this explosive sequel to The Last Republic, the fragile balance between the United States and the Republic of Deseret collapses into open conflict. Armies clash across deserts and mountains, politicians gamble with destiny, and ordinary men and women are forced to decide whether truth is worth dying for.

McBeth has really grown as an author since his first book. This is definitely his best work. It really hits hard in places. Looking forward to the finale.

McBeth really upped his game.

It reads like a Tom Clancy novel but with better tactical and cultural accuracy. Without giving anything away, the last section made me think of Amalickiah. (Yes, I'm Mormon.) I hope we see a few things in the next book:
Mormons reference the Bible frequently too.
They also talk about Pioneer heritage.
Book of Mormon has military strategy.
Would like to see something like Teancum killing Amalickiah in his sleep.

Fun Read!

the realism and tactical knowledge. I enjoy the hook of morality.

I really love how Ryan makes things human and has complex characters being real humans and that there is no “plot armour” for characters. A wonderful alternative history of the USA- well worth a credit to listen to. Keep it up Ryan. Really looking forward to how this series will develop. Well done.

The accidental author is really finding his feet - a great addition to what is turning into an enthralling series.
