Minds and machines, the last Homo Superior, love and betrayal, humans and superhumans, nanobots and an intelligent machine, an underwater colony and the mystic yellow lake, grim and Lucy. This is the story of my adventure with Lo Wainwright, her colony, their intelligent machine, and how the war for humanity began.

Such a unique story, with enough twisty and turned to keep the reader/listener wanting more. Bullock has created a cast of characters, providing an instant connection. While a quick story, this sets us all up for a longer saga.

The story gave me Bioshock mixed with Hail Mary vibes and ended in a way I didn't expect. I had my predictions, and they were all blown out of the water. It was fun to hear the background story of how such a calamity occurred rather than picking up the story after it's happened already. The narrator did a good job. I was able to pick out each character by voice alone.

Really enjoyed this book -- it's very thought-provoking, exploring both the good and bad sides of transhumanism and advanced AI. Ultimately it's about what makes us human. The characters are deep and the imagery is beautiful! The ending was very exciting and leaves the reader anticipating the next one in the series!
