I made this audiobook to chronologize my personal experience of going through the lockdown in Shanghai during the covid-19 ordeal for over 60 days. In those days of confinement, I had a full taste of how brutal the authoritarian socialist system could be and how fragile, helpless, and insignificant individuals were in front of the cold and inhumane government policies.
It seemed that under the Chinese system, most of the people were “submissive”. They appeared to be obedient and docile without many of their own thoughts. As an American who has been living in Shanghai for four years, even I have been tamed and assimilated into that mold. The values and principles that I once lived by just crumbled under tremendous societal pressure. It was hard to believe that it didn’t take much to have me trained that way.
