A former SAS trooper's peaceful life is shattered by explosive violence and death when he and his fiancée travel to Mauritius for an idyllic beach wedding.

Logan, a retired, battle-hardened Special Forces vet, was content with running a small gun store on the outskirts of Los Angeles, along with his fiancee Freya Olsen. For him, the chaos of war is fading into memory, and the business is scraping by—until their wedding plans change everything.

The daughter of an American diplomat in Mauritius is kidnapped by the Chinese to force him to cede Diego Garcia and large swathes of the Indian Ocean to Chinese influence. He cannot agree, yet with the deadline apporaching, he cannot allow them to murder his daughter. In desperation, he contacts Logan.

What happens next is a nightmare of savage attacks. Except they picked the wrong man to mess with. They’ve declared war on a soldier who knows nothing but war. Logan partners with his pal Ernie Barrett, a former SEAL, to search for the kidnapped girl. They are up against a ruthless and secretive Chinese with immense resources, and when he discovers their involvement, he puts them in the crosshairs.

Can Logan survive for long enough to locate the missing girl before they kill her? Will the Paradise island, a favored tourist destination, become soaked in blood? One thing’s for sure. If they push him hard, he’ll push back harder.

A full-length novel by Todd McLeod and Eric Meyer, bestselling authors of many Spec Ops books. These include the popular ‘Logan,’ ‘SEAL Attack,’ Grant’s War, SEAL Team Bravo, Heroes of Afghanistan, Raider, Echo Six, and Devil's Guard series.

It's hardly worth mentioning how no one likes the virtual voice, but it's not the worst I've ever heard. Mostly stumbles when it says numbers and occasionally mispronounces words. If the story is good, you don't even really notice.

That aside, the story itself IS good. no punches were pulled, and I liked that.
I have been in the literary doldrums for about five years now. it's nearly impossible to find a book worth finishing. my usual genre is fantasy or romance, but they've become mass-produced slop with questionable characters (they would be in jail if they behaved like "that" in real life. I get my credit back when I come across those.)
Sometimes I have to drag myself through, hoping the story might pick up or improve, only to be disappointed in the end. other times, the book starts with a bang and fizzles out like a cheap firecracker. to try to get out of those doldrums, I started reading other genres. I've always been a fan of action-adventure from the 80s and 90s, or Jason Statham-type characters, but I've never really read the books with those elements until recently. So this is the route I've taken to remind myself why i love to read, and so far I'm pleased with the results.

I'm not saying this one is perfect, there was some definite plot armor and a little bit of "why did they do that? even I could see that wasn't going to work..."
BUT it was still interesting. I liked the characters and could easily "see them" because the authors took time to make each one stand out.
It's very cinematic, and the climax was worth it.
