A 2026 Audie Award Finalist for Best Fiction Narrator

The 40th anniversary edition of the Pulitzer Prize–winning classic of the American West, with a new foreword by Yellowstone cocreator Taylor Sheridan. An epic of the frontier, Lonesome Dove is the grandest novel ever written about the last defiant wilderness.

Journey to the dusty little town of Lonesome Dove, where retired Texas Rangers Augustus McCrae and Woodrow Call undertake a perilous cattle drive to the untamed plains of Montana. Along the way, they face danger, adventure, and an unforgettable cast of characters. Richly authentic and beautifully written, Lonesome Dove is a story of love, loss, and the unyielding spirit of the American West.

The narrator is perfect and the story is the best epic western I’ve ever read. (If you can’t place the narrators voice, he’s the assistant coach beside Denzel in Remember the Titans among other popular films).

Years ago I watched the Lonesome dove mini series with my grandfather. It was pretty good, but didn’t impact me like this books did. Maybe because it’s 30+ years old, but There’s so much more depth to the characters in the book. Someone mentioned the characters feel more like real people than actual people. I don’t know why but it’s true.

This novel made me laugh, made me cry, made me angry, and made me think about how I live my life. I absolutely adored this read. I hope you like it, too!

My new favorite book of all time. Perfect narrator

I read this novel a few years ago and truly enjoyed it. But listening to Will Patton’s version made me love it. Do yourself a favor and listen. Will Patton was brilliant and made each and every character stand out.
p.s. DO NOT listen to the foreword by Taylor Sheridan if you haven’t already read the book!!

The one western you need to read

this was by far the best audiobook I have listened to in the last few years.

The narrator is a prolific character actor but I never realized how good he actually was until I listened to this book

I’m not really a western fan. But this was an amazing story and never wanted to stop listening… I look forward to my long commute at the end of the workday so that I could listen to the next few chapters.

My title says I regret waiting… I should probably caveat that by saying I think this was the perfect version and that my only real regret was that the narrator had not recorded this 20 years earlier.

if you enjoy adventure, humor, & great storytelling, then you really must listen to this version of Lonesome Dove

Amazing - I regret waiting

This is by far one of the greatest novels I’ve read and listened to. Will Patton’s narration is spot on, you don’t have to be a fan of the Western genre to appreciate the characters and writing, it’s a must read and listen.

This book stands the test of time. It’s a great listen. It has characters you become attached to, adventure, history, love, and heartbreak. For anyone who didn’t read it when it first came out, this is a definite must. Or if you’re like me and read it decades ago, it’s still breathtaking.

A great yarn
