Longevity for the Mind & Body is a clear, practical guide to living well as we age – without fads, fear, or false promises.

Rather than chasing quick fixes or extreme interventions, this audiobook shows how longevity is shaped by everyday choices that quietly add up over time. Drawing on current research and real-world examples, Ian D. Westerman explores how movement, nutrition, rest, mindset, connection, and purpose work together to support both physical vitality and mental clarity.

This is not a audiobook about reversing age. It is about aging well — staying strong, steady, and engaged with life for as long as possible.

Inside, you’ll discover:

• How simple movement patterns protect strength, balance, and independence

• Why what and how you eat matters more than restrictive diets

• The overlooked role of sleep, stress, and emotional rhythm in long-term health

• How mindset, identity, and purpose influence resilience and motivation

• What long-lived communities get right — and how to apply those lessons at home

• How modern tools, from wearables to preventive healthcare, can support smarter choices

Throughout the audiobook, science is translated into plain language and paired with practical reflections, helping you shape habits that feel sustainable rather than forced. Real-life stories bring the principles to life, showing how longevity is built through consistency, not perfection.

Whether your goal is to feel more energetic, think more clearly, or build a lifestyle that supports you well into later life, Longevity for the Mind & Body offers a calm, evidence-based path forward — one grounded in attention, balance, and intention.

This is Book Two in the Life Begins at 40 series, but it stands fully on its own.

This is book 2 of Life Begins at 40. What I liked about the book is that it was interesting, offers facts and can be applied to real life situations. It was informative and I appreciate the author's disclaimer that some information may not apply to me. I would recommend this book for any one near or over 40.

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

⭐⭐⭐⭐ Practical, quick use guide

A thoughtful, quick listen packed with practical, immediately usable ideas. This is my second audiobook from Ian, and it leans even more into health, longevity, and building habits that support a long, vibrant life. A few of the resources he mentions feel a bit dated based on what we know now (e.g. around the CDC and off topic but similar about the health benefits of oatmeal), but that didn’t take away from the core message: making progress today matters, and small steps count.

What I appreciate most is that nothing he suggests is extreme. It’s more like a steady nudge toward better choices, and for me it was the perfect reinforcement at the perfect time. I’m not yet 40 and actively planning for the long term, so this landed exactly when I needed it. I’m glad I have the audiobook because, like his first one, it’s something I’ll revisit.

Focus on:
1. Diet
2. Exercise
3. Heavy lifting, especially
4. Connection
5. Small improvements over time
6. GIVING YOURSELF GRACE!
