Double Like

I was beyond impressed with this book. I think my favorite parts are in the middle of s**t situations the main character can always find a snarky retort. Brilliant dialog and worldbuilding, leaving so much for your imagination to build upon. Took me a little bit to navigate the narrators voices, but once into it they were clear as day.

This was a pretty good book, in my opinion. I really enjoyed the fast-paced, action packed story. I liked the characters and story line. The narration is very well done, too. All in all, I really liked this and would love more from this authoer/narrator duo.

Sleuthing - Grimdark Style

This book was given to me for free at my request and I am providing this voluntary review.

Overall:

I have to admit that while this book has its moments, I did not find myself enjoying the book as much as I hoped. I had difficulty following in some parts and it made the story feel disjointed to me. That being said, I did finish the book with the last few hours being altogether more interesting to me than the previous 13. If you are into mystery novels within a medieval-era setting, this might be the book for you.

Narration:

One of the voices the narrator used (Nils) seemed a bit mumbly/nasally to me and in a few parts I had difficulty understanding what the character was supposed to be saying. Coincidentally, I have listened to another book narrated by Jenkins and the dialogue was fine. In my opinion, this was not one of the narrator's better performances.

Odd Narration

The story seemed good, but I couldn't get past the narration. The narrator used weird rhythm and inflections, like he didn't like the idea of ending sentences, so he just left them hanging. I found it too distracting to finish. Will get it on Kindle.

Grimdark Detective Novel

I am a huge fan of the Grimdark Genera. This one is in a class by itself. Gritty reality, stark landscape, and dubious antagonist. No white knights in shining armor. Just a bunch of flawed human beings, set to the scene of a medieval mystery of "Who Dunnit" and "What for". I found the story gripping, exciting, moving and a bit tragic. I loved every moment of it! If you are a fan of Grimdark, and it's master story tellers, add this to your collection. You will not be disappointed.
