For fans of Nicholas Sparks, Amor Towles, and Kate Quinn, comes a tale that asks one important question Can love prevail from the battlefields of WW1 Europe, to postwar Mississippi and into WWII?

In 1918, in a dramatic battlefield scene on the Western Front, young American soldier Peter Montgomery sustains a severe wound. He’s transported to a British hospital, where he falls hard for Elizabeth, a young English nurse, and she for him. Upon his release, they engage in an intense love affair, forever changing both of their lives.

Separated and shipped home, Peter tries desperately to reconnect with Elizabeth, but the war and the Spanish flu epidemic have the world in turmoil. Despite his every effort, desperate and in great distress, he is unable to reconnect with her. And then, suddenly, all hope is gone.

For the next 27 years, Peter stoically meets many challenges in his life, finding a way to make a living during the Depression and being a devoted father to his son, born 11 months after marriage to a woman he does not love.

This debut novel from Alfred Nicols takes you from the battlefields of Europe during WWI to postwar Mississippi and into WWII and begs one question. Will true love prevail?

I absolutely loved this! If you're a romantic at heart, you will adore Lost Love's Return. I found myself tearing up and smiling along with Peter and Elizabeth. I'm so happy I found this sweet book. I didn't want to put it down.

Loved this!

As a lifelong southerner, I am accustomed to actors and narrators butchering the dialect of the south. it never fails to effect the way I feel about a performance. The written dialogue and the accent in which they were spoken were particularly egregious. The made the characters sound downright backwoods, and they were not. I have a love/hate relationship with the book. it read almost like one was reading a journal, but skipping over some of the good stuff. The end, particularly, annoyed me. How many years in the lives of how many characters can you cram into five minutes. While I applaud the resolution of the story, it ultimately felt unsatisfying. Especially unsatisfying was the lack of importance placed on Elizabeth's life after both wars.

The atrocious accent
