Near the height of an empire, Clara Grace, a fierce yet amateur astronomer embarks on a perilous journey with an infamous pirate after her home is threatened by beings that lurk among the stars. It all begins when Captain Connor Rite, a swashbuckler from the island of Der Rite, and his trusty quartermaster Caesar are greeted by a decrepit sailor who delivers a sinister message along with an unknown artifact of unprecedented abilities. However, before they can uncover its secrets, an invisible starship lays waste to everything Connor ever loved. Adrift at sea and captured by the British several days later, he conjures up a plan that leads him directly to Clara who helps him steal a ship and embark on a quest that takes them to the edge of the Caribbean. Amid their setbacks, however, they eventually join forces with the devil of the seas—Black Beard. Yet when their quest takes a grueling turn, they decide that the only way to wage this terrible battle is to unite as one. And the only soul capable of doing so lies beneath the sea within the ruins of the Flying Dutchman.
