What would you do if, after years of what you thought was a happy marriage, your husband suddenly announced he was leaving you for good?

Anna is in her fifties and is living a contented life. Their children have left home and she and her husband work at the same school. One day, a perfectly ordinary day (or so she thought) they are sitting on a bench during a walk with their beloved Labrador and David drops a devastating bombshell: he’s fallen in love with a colleague and is leaving her.

At first, she wants to hide herself away, but, with the help of her friend and her daughter, she realises that there has to be life after a long marriage; she must move forward. She makes some huge changes: she leaves her job, moves house and goes to visit her estranged sister in Australia. As she navigates her new life as a single woman again, she discovers she's stronger than she realised.

Can she build a new life, find new love and a ‘happy-ever-after’ or will she be on her own forever?

If you love humorous and poignant novels about women facing up to the harsh realities of life, then you’ll love this emotional and uplifting story.

An endearing narrator may struggle to fit into clothes in a dressing room as she tries to fit into her new life. But it’s no struggle for the reader to fall in love with her and her adoring Labrador who travels with her into the redemption of new love after a life shattering betrayal by her husband. The rather easy fixes following her husband’s leaving her for another woman detract from an otherwise emotionally engaging story. Hard to believe an overweight middle aged woman finds the perfect flat in a charming city, then finds love with the first handsome and loving single guy she meets in her new town. Or that she resolves both the marriage crisis of her sister and alcoholism of her brother in law with a few chats with them. Otherwise, a lovely sweet book.

Almost believable

It was ok. Not a story that I would read again. Just meh. There was a lot of politics that was not needed and did not add anything to the story. The cheating really wasn't addressed and the husband was a dxxk,

Meh!

AI narrator was flat and unconvincing. Storyline was predictable, and uninspired. Characters were run of the mill.

Weak story
