Award-winning poet Marisa de los Santos crafts an irresistibly touching debut novel. Love Walked In is a contemporary tale, steeped in nostalgic, cinematic charm, of love in all its forms.

Unapologetically idealistic about love, Cornelia Brown appears to catch the break of a lifetime when the dashing Martin Grace, her own personal Cary Grant, comes strolling into her life. But it is Martin's connection to 11-year-old Clare Hobbes that touches Cornelia's heart in ways she never imagined.

I liked the book, but the narration drove me crazy. There are so many times when you can hear voices or laughing in the background while the narrator’s speaking. How did nobody catch or fix that??

Laughing in the background!

Would you try another book from Marisa de los Santos and/or Jennifer Ikeda?

Probably not. The story has interesting parts but is tied up too neatly and rather unbelievably at the end.

Has Love Walked In turned you off from other books in this genre?

Not necessarily.

What didn’t you like about Jennifer Ikeda’s performance?

Jennifer Ikeda's reading of Cornelia is very annoying. If there is "overacting" in reading an audiobook, this is one example of it. I almost couldn't get past the first part. Her performance of the male voices is also quite awful (the girl's father sounds like he's constipated) and it's hard to listen to them. The woman who reads the girl's voice is much better though there is a lot of background noise and, at some points, as other reviewers have said, you can hear people laughing in the background. Very poor production.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

Maybe.

Any additional comments?

I will make sure to read reviews before I buy an audiobook next time.

Disappointing

A touching unique story of love unlike the typical storylines. Love in many forms. Sophisticated prose.

Beautifully written

Distracting background noise in chapter 24 that was disappointing to hear. Laughter and other noises.

The story is beautiful and sad with sprinkles of humor. It did start a bit slow; to be honest I was tempted to stop reading at the beginning but I’m grateful I didn’t. Once the story started to unfold I couldn’t drop the book.
I wish the voice of Clare were a bit more childlike (audiobook comment), I think it could have made the transitions smother and the story’s flow more realistic. I’m glad their story isn’t over, just noticed there is a series, I want to see how this love story continues to grow
