They were forced into this marriage of convenience, but there’s more at stake than their hearts on this wagon train through the mountain wilderness.

When Rose Jackson and her Irish immigrant family join a wagon train headed for a new life in South Carolina, the last thing she expects is to fall for the half-Cherokee wagon scout along the way. But their journey takes a life-changing turn when Rose is kidnapped by Indians. Daniel comes to her rescue, but the effects mean their lives will be forever intertwined.

Daniel prides himself on his self-control—inner and outer—but can’t seem to get a handle on either when Rose is near. Now his life is bound to hers when the consequences of her rescue force them to marry. Now it’s even more critical he maintain that self-control to keep her safe.

When tragedy strikes at the heart of their strained marriage, they leave for Daniel’s home in the Blue Ridge Mountains. As they face the perils of the journey, Rose can’t help but wonder why her new husband guards his heart so strongly. Why does he resist his obvious attraction for her? And what life awaits them at the end of love’s winding road?

I really hope narration in general doesn’t go to AI. Not a fan. The story was lovely.

AI is not it. The story was lovely.

I wondered why the narration was very awkward, then I realized it was AI! Very unnatural pronunciation, and it didn’t match the tone of the scenes. I had to pause and rewind a few times to understand what was going on. I’m actually very annoyed at the quality of the audio because it ripped me away from the story telling

I loved this unique story! I've never heard of wagon trains that traversed South through the Eastern United States. This was long before Western migration, and Native tribes were a larger part of those earlier American years. This story features both friendly and enemy tribes welcoming and attacking those settlers. I loved the slow buildup of the romance between the half Cherokee half English wagon scout and a young Irish immigrant woman. They both had many trials that God brought them through so that they could forge a beautiful future built on love, hope, and faith! I read the ebook version that also came with a free audio version, but it used virtual voice instead of a human narrator. I listened to some of it, but I really don't like books without human narrators. They are improving, but the biggest problem now is timing and understanding who is speaking. The sound is very unnatural in timing! And there is no pause or distinction in the various character voices. This book, at least wasn't written with narration in mind, so there's no, "she said" or "he thought" types of lead ins.

This had the potential to be a good story. This is only my second time to listen to a book with virtual voice. Never again. So many words were mispronounced. And even though vocal inflection is a part of virtual voice, it is completely void of emotion. Many times the Voice would go up with inflection at the end of a sentence when it should have gone down or vice versa. Again, it had the potential to be a great story, but was not enjoyable, and I will not be listening to any other virtual voice recordings..
